I have three newspapers I read fairly regularly. The Stars and Stripes(aka Stars and Hypes), The Guam Pacific daily News(PDN), and the Navy Times(aka the Navy Enquirer). Guam’s humble little newspaper is the least biased of all three. Recently, the NT ran a story about the phrase shipmate. Shipmate goes back to the days of sail, prior to nametags on umiforms. Many leaders today use the phrase shipmate when initiating a correction, and it rubs some sailors the wrong way. Medicineman8 at the NT forums has a theory.”The liberal media is to blame for the sensitivity of much of today’s youth.” He goes on to say that some officers he has worked with required him to use earth sack in lieu of the more popular dirt bag.
